This was a lot of fun to dream up and create from the Simplicity pattern #2443. I wanted something that will take me through the summer and give me multiple fashion looks. Something comfy, cool, and revêrsible. Here is the creation process:
When I thought of summer, it drew me to the hypnotizing sound of waves bobbing up and down, the sand between my toes, and the bright blinding sun heating up my skin. Awwwe yes, an image of me relaxing on the beach. I wish this could happen everyday:) From this imagery, I wanted the beach to be incorporated into the dress.
The design: At first, I had planned for the skirt to be in a single color blue fabric to represent the water. However, when I got to the fabric store, I saw this wavy design which was perfect for the water. The satin waist band represents the sand, the sky&clouds are the bodice portion, and the sun is my upcycled flower made from an old tattered cashmere sweater. This fun one-piece dress has a side zipper and the best part of the dress...it is reversible!
The dress can take me from day to night. During the day, I can wear the Beach inspired style to the market and later in the evening just flip it, put on a gorgeous necklace, slip on some heels and be ready for a nice dinner party.
