I used to become frustrated when trying to make garments or home décor items with perfect narrow 1⁄4-inch mitered corners. To make it easier, I developed a foolproof method that results in perfect corners every time.
First, fold the fabric’s corner to the wrong side, making each edge of the folded “triangle” 3⁄4 inch long, and then press the fold. Trim the pressed triangle so 1⁄4 inch remains along the fold. Then turn each side fabric edge in 1⁄4 inch, and press. Finally, fold the sides in another 1⁄4 inch, and press again. You have a perfect mitered corner, and you can stitch the pressed edge in any manner for a perfectly finished mitered corner.

TheThreadLady writes: Great idea! As a quilter I am pretty good a mitering corners on a quilt, but have been frustrated when trying it on a garment. Your suggestion looks very promising. Thanks for the tip!
