Denim Military Jacket for Fall Jacket Contest
comments (2) October 18th, 2010 in galleryLike others, I too was very excited about many of the fall trends down the runway, including the military look and tons of fur. So I combined the two in this jacket and added a few other details from some of the RTW jackets I saw in stores.
I started with the Marfy 1736 pattern that I heavily modified for fit on a previous jacket project. Then I added about 2" to the length of the jacket and straightened the hem. I added a belt 1" above my natural waist, which helps the proportions on short girls like me. I also added some fun details on the sleeves, extended the lapel and made the corners square rather than rounded. In the front and back I added a few extra design lines. On the front princess seams I included some pockets, secured by a button. The fur collar was sewn by hand and can be removed if I ever want to change the look of the jacket. The fun finishing touch was all the gold topstitching.
The jacket is made from quality Italian brown denim, lined with a stretch poly lining and the pockets are lined with a fun leopard print. This jacket was really fun to make and even more fun to wear.
