I was using Lamb's Pride bulky yarn in Oatmeal with a size 10.5 hook. The best part- it took me just under 4 hours to complete!

I basically followd these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIH0ntfwzCk) instructions from the folks at Threadbanger, but I adjusted it to make it a shape I prefered. Its easy to adapt! I hope you enjoy!
