Reserve 24 stitches on a stitch holder.
You can use this long tail for sewing the mitts together.

Finishing
Weave in all the loose ends except for the 18-inch tails you have reserved for sewing up the mitts.

Fold on 5-1/2-inch section lengthwise so that the cast-on edge meets the bind-off edge.

With wrong sides together, sew the edges together with the leftover tail leaving a hole for your thumb measuring approximately 1-1/2 inches. It would be helpful to pin together before sewing up for best sizing and placement.

Measure the placement of the thumb hole for a custom fit.

Sew the mitt section together with an invisible weaving technique.

Sew the other side the same way.

Keep your fingers free for year-round craftiness!

YOU ARE A HOOT! Although I may not make this item I loved reading about it. The picture was a fun bonus. I am going to pass this design along to a friend who sits in the cold stands at sporting events and attempts to do some knitting during half-time or time outs. She will love it!
