Quilt for a Causecomments (0) August 25th, 2008
Love to quilt? Want to help a good cause?
For the past six years Hancock Fabrics has hosted the St. Jude Quilt of Dreams contest to help fund the St. Jude's children's hospital in Tennessee. Quilters all over the nation have answered the call to the tune of nearly 15,000 quilts so far.
This year, the contest is supported by Wheel of Fortune lovely, Vanna White, and promises to be the biggest yet.
To enter the contest, simply make a quilt incorporating some of the St. Jude's Quilt of Dreams fabric (you can find it online at www.hancockfabrics.com or at many other fabric stores online.) For every yard of the fabric sold, Hancocks will donate 50 cents (plus another 10 cents from Fabri-Quilt) to support the efforts of St. Jude. For rules and regulations, click here.
Winners will win gift certificates and quilt bragging rights for a year. All of the quilts are then donated to the St. Jude Foundation for children in the hospital to keep during (and after!) their stay.
The deadline is Labor Day, so get stitchin'! If can't crank out a lap quilt by Labor Day weekend (or just have holiday plans that involve more sun than sewing machine), you can make a difference by just buying some of the fabric for a later project or stopping by your local Hancocks to make a $1 donation.
And if you can't make it this year, there's always next year. It's an annual contest so you'll have plenty of time to get started.
