At Cloth Fiber Workshop I found a wonderful hemp and tussah silk blend fabric that has a soft sheen and a tweedlike fabric that is a blend of silk and cotton.  The Egyptian cotton thread is from Italy and the metal and wood buttons will enhance any garment.

I recently visited a wonderful studio and workshop founded by fiber artist Barbara Zaretsky, who also operates her own textile design and manufacturing company, BZDesign, which is housed in the same location.

Cloth Fiber Workshop is a spacious, light-filled learning center that offers a wide array of classes and workshops with an amazing roster of instructors. Barbara says people from all over the country have taken classes and workshops there since the space opened in 2007. My purpose in visiting Cloth was to view a juried show of surface design works. It included examples of dyed, embroidered, felted, quilted, painted, beaded, stamped, and otherwise stitched pieces created by many of the Cloth's instructors.

In addition to workshop space, there is a small retail area that offers some beautiful, organic yarns and fabrics as well as dyes, threads, and other notions. Barbara’s striking home furnishing and wearable pieces are also available.
Of course, I found some fabric, buttons, and thread I couldn’t live without. You may not be able to visit Asheville, but you can check out the Cloth Fiber Workshop online. Fabrics aren't offered on the website, but yarns and threads are, as well as pieces from BZDesign.
