Yo Yo Quilt-Hand Sewn
comments (2) March 12th, 2011 in galleryIt took me 4 years to complete this huge project. Each yo yo atarted as a 2 1/4" circle and was hand sewn into a yo yo that was hand sewn at 6 places to connect over 2,000 yo yos to make this quilt. It was made to fit this double brass bed that belonged to my Great Grandparents. I decided while I was at it, I'd make it a memory quilt made from clothes of friends, loved ones, and family members who have passed away, making it a very special project to work on. Now that it's completed, every time I look at it I am touched by what I see! I am reminded of those I love and those I loved who are no longer with us. It touches my very soul! I just hope my daughter appreciates it as much as I do, someday. My attitude before starting this after delaying for about 10 years (for fear I wouldn't stick with it), was to not make it a job, but fun and to take my time! I decided if it took me 10 years, that would be ok! Well, it only took 4 years and there were periods of 6 months at a time that I didn't touch it, but never packed it away! (I knew if it was out of sight, it would be out of mind!) So I kept it in our family room where I saw it everyday! This was a great project to take on car and train trips as it didn't take much room. If you are a sentimental fool, patient, love fabric, and the old country style of quilts, I would highly recommend this project!
