FinelyFabricated writes: Having trained in public speaking through Toastmaster's, I do see you're points regarding this girls diction. However, I did understand her perfectly.

She is an intern after all and this may be her very first video. Comments regarding her inexperience with public speaking detract from the point of this page; to show people how to tie this current fashion trend. I find them rude and offensive.

It's nice to see a young person starting out and one who is into sewing. If you've never stood in front of a video camera or an audience to do a demonstration, then you don't know how nervous that can make someone. Give the poor girl a break.

As for the girl's attire, she is appropriately dressed for today's casual office. I've seen much worse in the office and from women who are old enough to know better.

As to the information in the presentation, She explained perfectly and demonstrated slowly enough, that even if you didn't understand her, if you watched the video, you should be able tie the belt.

I'm long waisted and often on purchased clothes the waist is slightly higher than mine. This wide belt hides that so I can wear more purchased garments. I don't have time to make all my clothes, but I can whip up several of these to wear with any dress or outfit I want.

The stays are a good idea to keep the belt from rolling and in a simple belt like this, easy to insert on the sides or where ever you need them most.

1tiredmom writes: "rr528" makes a really good point regarding the "buckle and pucker" factor once you bend at the middle. I resolved this problem by inserting stays, center front and about four inches to the left and right of center. They are hidden when the belt is wrapped and tied and really help to keep it stable.
Regarding the video: Relax ladies, it's not brain surgery. Yes her "diction" did stumble at the start and I found it difficult to understand her name. But her directions were clear and easy to follow. As to her attire, look at any current fashion magazine. She is spot on trend for causal office right down to the mussy ponytail!
Thanks for the instructions!

Maral writes: Just FYI, this is not an obi. It's a Japanese-inspired belt as she says, but this is not how one ties an actual Japanese obi. Japanese obi are always tied in back; if you tie it in front, it means you're a prostitute. ;)

IreneT writes: This lady is very difficult to understand but as the belt is not a flattering style for the average figure, it is probably directed at fashionable teenagers who will understand her.

PollyEster writes: I agree with Inkstain. I could follow her, but I found myself drawing on my "listening to teenagers talk" experience. The young lady could do well with a course in diction and enunciation. I notice that on TV they have some young people hawking products with the same speach flaws. Their words usually run together and usually emphasise at the most inappropriate spots in their sentences. Maybe its a generational thing. I wonder if they have ever listened to a play-back of their speach. That's my opinion and I'm *stickintoit. *(that was no accident, just the printed version of today's youth speach patterns).

TNsewer writes: Are we watching the same video. My speakers aren't all that good, but I certainly had no problem wither understanding or following the directions provided. I get so tired of "professional" spokespeople, it's nice to see an average person. And before you jump all over me ... public relations IS my profession!

Katielynne writes: I entirely agree with inkstain...this young woman may be just darling, but she needs to learn how to speak publicly. I had a very difficult time trying to understand and then 80% I still could not figure out by replaying over and over. And who approved such sloppy attire and hair to represent their company? Embarrassing as this is, it is even more embarrassing when you consider that only prostitutes wore their obis in this manner. To publish on the internet, you need to be more culturally aware. I'm surprised at the lack of polish, research and higher quality that we've come to expect from The Taunton Press.

nkimble writes: Sheesh inkstain that is the rudest comment. I think this girl is darling and does a great job at describing how to tie the belt. I understood her perfectly!

inkstain writes: I'm sure this girl is a perfectly nice person, but her presentation is completely unacceptable for public broadcast. Her speech is nearly unintelligible: she doesn't open her mouth, nor does she enunciate clearly, she has no expression and should never have been put in this embarrassing position. If you want to run home videos of the staff, please spare the public.

rr528 writes: And it'll stay looking nice as long as you don't sit down. At that point, any softness you might have around your middle will cause the belt to buckle and pucker.
