Secretary writes: I have retired, widowed, moved house 4 times in 18 months, downsized and now I can get back into the sewing mode- but as it's a long, long time since I sewed except mending etc. everything has changed. All the new words and methods are confusing and do not make sense to me. This book would be a godsend and would certainly help me to get back into the swing of things. It addresses the entire creative sewing process from start to finish and beyond. All the Taunton books are quality products and this is no exception. Our public library has only 7 copies of this reference and a long waiting list for borrowing it >>> 63 names so far. Borrowing it for 3 weeks at a time is not enough. I would love to have a copy of my own, however, since our home is overflowing with books, my husband, an e-book fan, has introduced a strict moratorium on hard copies. Only gifted books find a place on our crammed shelves now. I can only hope!

My granddaughters are now having children and some are so excited to learn to sew for them which makes me very happy. I have let my wonderful machine sit unused for the last few years until just this month and have now begun to reaquaint myself with the fun and satisfaction of creating my own clothes.

sewold writes: I've been sewing since I was about 13 (77 now). Mostly self taught (and sometimes need a better teacher). I sew in self defense - hard to fit. Taught 4-H sewing several times but let someone else teach my daughter to avoid conflict! She sews much more creatively than I do. Both her daughters can sew and sometimes prefer it to purchased clothing, either for style or cost. I'd be glad to share this book with any of them if I should be so lucky.

I also teach children in after school programs how to hand sew, doing dollmaking etc - and teach a class called "survival sewing for you" - which saves lots of people lots of money on repairs...and also saves the environment, because they aren't throwing away every little thing beacuase its missing a button or something. I hope to win....I know its a lottery -- so good luck to us all!

I've made my children clothes, quilts for the beds and the walls and given away to my nieces, nephews and great-nieces & nephews. I do so love to sew and am very happy when someone appreciates what I've done. You never know everything about sewing and I am still learning new things all the time. This book will help me do just that.

I made clothing for my 3 girls and a son and my hubby. In later years I used it for crafting and I could literally "make my sewing machine DANCE"...........I have gone a few years now and not sewed so much, but very recently bought myself a Janome and I ama going to learn to quilt......Many have said "why would you bother at 80" I say "why not".......I am extremely young at heart and hands and am always doing something new to combine with all of my something old. I am thrilled you have the sewing with shears and how to do it. I want to learn how to make all those darling fabric roses you see on so many things now days. I would love to have the book and learn even more. I worked an art class this past winter with 5 - 11 years old and loved it.

Now if I can only get my hands to interact with my brain and cut some straight fabric pieces, I'll bet I can learn to sew again. Cup is half full again.

eviej writes: I am a sewing novice -- my one-year old embroidery/quilting sewing machine sits virtually unused because I am SCARED of it! The technology it's capable of is alarming to me, and so far I've only been able to sew a straight seam and make a quilted placemat (which was mostly straight seams). The machine can do so much more, but I am terrified of it. I want to make so many things - gifts, decorate my house, sew clothes -- but I don't know how. The sewing machine manual is quite intimidating and I have yet to successfully embroider anything. But I keep trying!

This book would be a God-send! I need an all-encompassing "sewing guide" to help me learn how to sew and utilize all that my sewing machine is capable of.

I hope I win the book so I can start doing and making all the projects I'm dreaming of!
