The celtic knot is a symbol of love and eternity.  The knot that is forever intertwined with no beginning and no end.    Celtic knots came about early on during the Roman Empire.  They would add the celtic knot to everything from pictures of animals to floor tiles.  Today it's very commonly used to design jewelry like friendship bracelets and necklaces.  It makes a perfect gift for your best friend, boyfriend and even a special mother/daughter present.
