Indie is a word that is used a lot these days.  The word itself is an abbreviation for independent, i.e. independent fashion, independent record label (you get the idea).  Indie styles are styles that aren't exactly mainstream.  Usually styles that aren't so traditional and are innovative to whatever category the artist/designer is in.  Take a look at some examples.
