How to Cozy Up Your Curtains with a Crocheted Curtain Tieback
comments (10) September 17th, 2008Make a few crocheted flowers to accent your band. I used my free pattern—work as directed to make 1 large flower (shown in yellow), and work through round 2 only to make a medium flower (shown in gold). I used this free pattern to make the tiny flower. Of course, you can use any flower pattern you like, and feel free to mix and match. Here's a list of a whole bunch of free flower patterns for you.
Weave in the ends of the flowers, sew buttons to their centers (if desired) and then arrange them on the tieback. Fold the tieback in half first, with the short ends facing the side that your curtain will be pulled to. Arrange and sew on the flowers to the front half only of the tieback to be sure you'll see them all.

Next, you'll need to attach a ring to the inside of each short edge as shown below. With a length of yarn, make a few stitches around the ring to secure it, then weave in the yarn ends.

Wrap the tieback around your curtain, and slide the rings over the hook in your wall—voila!

I think the bird fabric is called Bird Seed and I know that it's by Alexander Henry. The polka dots are from the Wee Play collection by Sandy Klop. I got them both last year but I bet you could still find them online somewhere.
I can't wait to see your finished tie back, please share if you have a chance. :)

This really is easy, and it makes my happy curtains even happier.

I'd used beads on wire for another part of the curtain- we were hanging a rod in a doorway, and I didn't want to use anything obvious or nasty on the wood. My husband put in 2 eye hooks, and I put together these beads (from daughter's unwanted necklace kits) on wire... made loops to hold the rod. For some reason I never thought of making curtain ties. Thanks for the inspiration.
