Knit Witty: Funky English hotel features a room with hand-knit decor
comments (2) January 16th, 2012Imagine staying in a yarn-bombed hotel room! The New York Times Style magazine recently posted an item about a hotel in Brighton, England with a hand-knit-themed room.
The "Do Knit Disturb" room at the Hotel Pelirocco ("England's Most Rock 'n' Roll Hotel") features fiber-ific decor, from stockingette wallpaper to a crochet-covered rotary phone. (The room does seem to lump knit and crochet together as a single technique, but it's all yarn-related, so I forgive.)
The room decor was created by Kate Jenkins, a knitwear designer who formerly worked for Marc Jacobs. Check out her website and company, Cardigan: Knitwear for Life. Her crochet art is especially funny, with all the food and fish themes, including "Rabbit Pie," with crocheted bunnies escaping from a piecrust.
Are you inspired to knit and crochet covers for your housewares? I am seriously considering a lace-knit lampshade and a cabled bud vase.
* For admirers of yarn art, there's another recent exhibit I'd like to mention: Author and artist Anna Hravchovec's adorable Gnomes vs. Snowmen that was up at the gallery hanahou in New York City into November. You can see some hilarious highlights of the installation in a post at her Mochimochi Land site.
