Creating a gown for a night at the opera is the perfect challenge for this group of designers. Many of the All Stars are used to creating couture gowns, but as Anthony points out, this is not couture, but rather "pumped up prom dresses.""Couture in a day!" should not be the takeaway of this competition and the biggest obstacle our designers will face is the time limit. Creating a gown fit for the opera in only twenty-four hours without looking cheap or bridal will take some talent. The judges were looking for style, elegance, and detail, and called on designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka to guest judge this challenge.

Austin, Anthony, and Michael were the stars this week, while Sweet P, Kara, and April fell to the bottom. Sweet P fell into the prom dress trap. April tried to dye her red fabric, and wasted precious time, which could have been used for construction. And finally, Kara's floral fabric did not make a positive impression on the judges.

tennknitter writes: I thought Kenley's dress was the most "promish" and would have sent April home rather than Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea's was what my mother used to call a 'justa' (just a dress) but April's awful. If she hadn't tried to die it, it might not have been too bad but that oil slick look took away any hope the dress might have had. I too am enjoying the kinder judges - and feel like we're getting honest critique instead of sound bites.

ustabahippie writes: Hello??? Are DCQuilt and I the only readers here who noticed that Jerell's dress was his design from last week, and that Mila Hermanovska's dresses aren't showing up? I fell asleep during the runway (yes I did...believe it or not...I was so tired and the show comes on at 10pm here) and missed Mila, Mondo, Kenley, Gordana, Rami, and Jerell, waking only to see the last few and the judging.
The judges are so far much kinder than Heidi and her crew. We'll see how that lasts.

samsstuff writes: There are several 'misses' this time (a little too prom or wedding, mother of the bride, even), but I do agree with the judges on this one. Sweet P should be out for this round. My favorite for this round is Jerell, unusual & not at all frumpy or prom. I don't know if it's quite right for a night at the opera, but I like it.

krawz writes: I really expected more from Rami. I'm usually so impressed by his work but not this time. I agreed with the judges again. I think the judging is much better so far on All Stars vs regular Project Runway.

Did anyone else think that April started dyeing her dress fabric black just to piss off Michael? She knew he didn't buy red fabric because she had it so when she sees he got black fabric she starts dyeing her fabric black. Just a coincidence? I think not!

Kukana writes: Loved this challenge! I agreed with the judges, Michael and Austin's dresses were the best. I'm not sure what happened to Sweet Pea, she can usually pull something out of her hat, but both of her looks were so disappointing. Still missing Tim!!!
