Medieval Inspired Jewelry - "A Wandering Weapon" - Gothic Cross Fitchy and Sacred Heart Necklace by Ghostlove
comments (0) January 31st, 2012 in gallery
This necklace features a vintage French-style sacred heart pendant in pewter, with a large pewter cross fitchy pendant. A sterling silver plated chain with twisted hook and eye clasp completes the look.
The cross fitchy (from the French, “fixed”) originated as a cross with a pointed bottom, designed for use by traveling Crusaders, with a sharpened point that could be thrust into the ground. Because its shape resembles a sword, it became an ominous symbol of the Crusader’s faith, and their willingness to use force in its cause.
Measurements:
Cross alone - 2 1/2" long
Chain - 25" long
