Quilted Patchwork with RePatchIt applique
comments (0) February 8th, 2012 in galleryI made this patchwork blanket recently - for several reasons.
First of all, I wanted to try out some applique because I got very inspired by the (awesome!) book "For the Love of Hand Stitching with Jan Constantine".
Secondly, I wanted to show off the name I've chosen for my Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/RePatchIt) in an appropriate way - I thought I could take some nice pictures to use for my shop banner. Come to think of it, I haven't made that banner yet - but I really like the blanket!
It took a lot of time to make the applique. If you have good advice about how to do it quicker, I'm all ears.. If you're interested in doing applique like I did, follow these steps:
- Find a font type you like (I've used French Script).
- Print out the letters as big as possible, then photocopy them to upscale them even more if necessary.
- When they're the size you want, print them and cut out the shapes in paper.
- Place the paper on your felt or wool, turning the backside of the letters up. Draw the contour of the letters on your fabric.
- Cut out the shapes in the fabric.
- To applique, sew the letters/shapes on your patchwork using blanket stitch.
- Enjoy!
