Are you a bag lady? Do you have totes of all size, shape, color and material tucked in every closet and under every bed? You are not alone in your compulsion. After all we need a different bag to accommodate every project from the cutest little sock project bag to the humungous rolling tote for multi project storage. To some, a knitting bag is the latest fashion accessory coordinated to every outfit. For others, we want to spend money on yarn and buy bags that reasonably priced and utilitarian.

The knitting industry has fed our desire for bags with some of the most gorgeous and innovative bags that have ever been offered. Bags are available in every price point from under $10 upwards to $200 plus. Here are a few of my favorites:

Elegant and stylish
Offhand Designs combines couture style with lavish attention to detail in every bag they craft incorportaing high end fabric and contemporary designs. Why reserve it just for your knitting when it’s perfect for a day at the mall or a night on the town?

Lantern Moon not only creates exquisite products but is committed to making lives better socially, economically and environmentally within the global community. Their enchanting handcrafted bags are crafted from a variety of exotic materials from palm leaves to hand embroidered silk.

Well designed and practical
Tom Bihn is an innovative bag designer who manufactures his outstanding products in Seattle, WA. In 2005 they partnered with Knitty.com to design the ultimate knitting bag. The Swift is the result of their efforts and is a highly functional knitting companion offering both style and bullet-proof construction. It comes with two clear zippered pockets and a removable project sack with a clear bottom so you can find your stuff without blind digging.

BagSmith was originally famous for their fun handbag kits but recently their Project Bag has taken the lead position in their product line with good reason. Constructed of 100% cotton canvas over a foldable metal frame, it sports 17 glorious pockets for all your gadgets and treasures.

Simple and durable
Silver Brush is the go-to source for useful and durable bags and cases designed for artists in multiple creative disciplines including knitting. Their bags are designed to protect their valuable contents and withstand heavy use. Affordable and colorful, you will want several in your bag wardrobe.

Ashland Sky offers a simple and efficient range of bags and cases designed to allow you to locate your tools and projects at a glance. Constructed of translucent frosted vinyl trimmed in a rainbow of grosgrain colors, they are buttery soft to the touch and very lightweight.

Just like Goldilocks, we will try all the bags until we find the bag that is just right. Happy Shopping!

Thanks to Unwound Unique Yarns & Accessories for allowing me to take photographs of the Offhand Designs and Lantern Moon bags at their lovely shop in Blowing Rock, NC.

Jen1964 writes: Right on target! With the shift in today's styles, there are a lot of elongated purses or bags out there, and I've happily found they accommodate easily my needled projects. Nothing like having a bag you already love do double duty. I just make sure it's clean on the inside first. You can be so much more frivolous and cheerful with a knitting bag than a regular one.
