Next time you're working up some cotton dish cloths, try adding a bit of plastic bag to the center. That's right—crochet the center with plarn (plastic bag yarn) and you'll add a little bit of scrubbing power in an earth-friendly way. Cindy of MyRecycledBags.com has a great, free pattern for the dish cloths right here. You can even toss them in the washer on the gentle cycle—just be sure to hang them to dry or they'll melt. And she recently added a new star-shaped dish cloth pattern, too. I love that she uses colored bags and truly incorporates them into the design.

LindaPermann writes: Yachtchick, I think it depends on a lot of things, one of the major ones being how thick the plastic bag is. You will probably just have to experiment to see what works- I'd try different bags from different stores, some are kind of stretchy and some just fall apart. Good luck!

In any case, my mom got me started on making my own dishcloths. Nothing you get in the store is anything like them. Only thing they were missing was the scrubby part. This should be perfect. Thanks!
