Re: Book Giveaway: Betz White's "Sewing Green: 25 Projects Made with Repurposed & Organic Materials"

I just made one out of modern oilcloth - vinyl - and it is really cute. I dont think I would have bothered if I had realized before hand that the vinyl is not food safe. Just a bit more of a pain to have to line it with wax paper first. *curious, how does wax paper decompose? It would seem silly to use it if its just like plastic that gets thrown away...
Does anyone have any tips for sewing vinyl?? No matter what I tried the thread kept pulling thru the bottom. I tried a ball point and a leather needle and adjusted my tension all over the place and it still didnt sew nice. I also had to sew on a piece of paper to keep the vinyl side from sticking to my machine. I have material cut out for 3 more so would like to figure out what i'm doing wrong before sewing them up :) Thanks.
PS, your book is going on my wish list :)
