It's wonderful to come up with reusable things that reduce waste, especially plastic waste that does not biodegrade, but this project poses a danger. Some PUL's are food safe and some are not, depending on what chemical was used to cure them in the manufacturing process. Unless you can find something produced especially for food and labeled food grade it is better to use the suggestions of waxed fabric or multiple layers. For the iron on you'd have to contact the manufacturer to see if that is intended for food packaging.
