My name is Connie. I was born in Texas, and currently reside in a tiny north Texas town with my sweet husband and 8 children. We like to go letterboxing, where we get to enjoy nature and hiking, as well as the thrill of a treasure hunt! I like to bake, and I’m famous for my chocolate chip cheesecakes and cinnamon sugar biscotti. I could eat tex-mex cuisine at each and every meal.

I have a degree in English, and love to read classic novels. I love the way books smell – especially the old ones. I love finding old things and giving them a new life. I love that old things had a life before I found them, and would probably have some interesting stories to tell. I love the scratches, writings, dents, and folds that many of those items have... their battle scars...? I haunt all the local thrift stores several times a month (or more) to discover these practical (and yet oh-so-fun) materials... clothing, books, records, fabric, sewing notions, thread, ribbons, and even office supplies. Oh, and coffee mugs. I collect dorky or strange ones.

I have a serious fabric addiction -- especially for reclaimed fabrics and just about anything by Alexander Henry. I love to sew using my own designs and patterns. I also like to embroider and create with felt (new and recycled.) I enjoy swapping handmade (and quirky!) pincushions with fellow crafters, too!

Re: Repurpose, Recycle, and Reuse: Cutting Edge Creations From Cast-off Sweaters

Oooohh! I love fulling those thrift store sweaters! I started making ipod/cell phone cozies from them last summer. I embroider little felt designs on them, and sew the edges with a cute blanket stitch. They're quick and fun -- and instant gratification! I've also made needle books from those sweaters, too. The felt is so much thicker and nicer than the cheap felt at the craft stores, so the needlebooks have a nice weight to them.
