Re: What is your top tip for new sewers?
Hi! Here are 5 Good Tips from my personal experience:-
posted: 12:04 pm on November 24th1) Practice making seams -- and neaten every seam you ever sew before you do anything else! It's a lot harder to try to get into the corners once you've sewn a seamed garment-section to a yoke or something. :)
2) Don't fret if your first garment isn't great. After a while you can look back at it and think "If I made it again, I would do this..."
3) Maybe take a beginner's sewing course (even home study as I do). You'll learn the basic principles of dressmaking and see how simple dressmaking can be!
There is a free one from 1926 at vintagesewing.info called the Nu-Way Course in Fashionable Clothes-Making. It doesn't include zips because they hadn't been invented at the time.
YouTube can be helpful too.
4) Oh, and don't rush. Things are never as good or as fun if you rush them, and you'll almost always have to do them again.
5) Sometimes just sew for the fun of it. You don't always have to make a project. You might call this recreational sewing. It's like doodling for sewists!
There are probably many other tips but that is enough to be going on with. I hope it helps!
Happy sewing! -- Sabrina :)

What clever crochet on the button overlap!

That's a great idea for using pinking shears to reduce bulk on curves! Thanks.

I like this game and the website looks great!
posted: 4:03 pm on September 29thThe game would be better if the things would move around and still be in proportion to the room. It would be even better if you could change the direction they face.
Plus, it would be nice if you could add shelves etc. for fabric storage to make it more realistic.
Still, the rooms are very stylish and some people have made some that look great!
Re: Book Giveaway: Design-It-Yourself Clothes
This book would be great for helping me with my next Sewing Course! I would love to win it - it would make my day!
