I've been sewing and crafting on and off since I was old enough to hold a needle.
My mom taught me the nuts and bolts of sewing. My paternal grandma taught me crochet and various other crafts. However, I had little interest in any of it until Grandma showed me how to alter an existing pattern, create my own patterns, and interject my own artistic sensibilities into whatever I was doing. The light bulb went on, and by the time I was 8 years old I was designing, crocheting and knitting outfits for my dolls. I sewed a lot of my own clothes in high school, college, and into my mid 20s-- including tailored suits, evening dresses, and just about everything else-- until work and life became too demanding and time-consuming.
My 2 occupations (engineer and small business owner) leave me precious little time nowadays to sew and craft. But, once in a while, inspiration strikes and the other stuff just has to wait!

Re: How to Make a Reversible Swiffer Sock

I made this, and it works better than the disposable Swiffer cloths you buy in the store! Works great wet or dry. My floor is cleaner than it's been in a long time... Thank you!!

Re: The "Times" They Are A-Changing: How to Make a Basket from a Newspaper

Great idea! I'm going to make one or two or three! It's practical, pretty, economical AND it's good for the environment. thanks!!

Re: How to Make a Reversible Swiffer Sock

Great idea!!! My Swiffer is collecting dust in a corner and I haven't done any crocheting in years, but I'm totally inspired to get my hook out and make this!

Re: How to Restyle a T-Shirt into a Ruffly Cardigan

What a great idea! This would be a great use for the cropped T's that were popular a few years ago-- use one for the main body of the jacket, then use another one in the same color (or a complementary color) for the ruffle. Embellishing this with crocheted flowers or vintage buttons would be cute too!
