Baby Hoodie Week 5 - Finished Product!

I had to modify or omit a lot of the finishing instructions because I didn't have enough yarn to make a buttonhole band (and wasn't sure how it'd look with the stripes) or edging.  But I think...

Baby Hoodie Week 4 - Hood

The hood looks humongous!  I wonder if I did something wrong.  Since I modified a lot of the stitch counts due to thicker yarn and a skinnier baby, I'm guess-timating changes to each...

Baby Hoodie Week 3 - Sleeves

This week took forever because I kept running out of yarn.  Apparently, I didn't have as much brown as I thought, so I had to keep re-mixing in blue until there was enough.  But it's all...

Baby Hoodie Week 2 - Fronts

This week, I learned how to tell what right and wrong sides are when crocheting garments.  After I switched to the brown and blue yarns, it was pretty obvious which sides were what.

Baby Hoodie Week 1 - Back

First week of the baby hoodie crochet along.  I found some brown and blue yarn around and hope that it's enough to make the hoodie!

Crochet Ring Bracelet

This was a lot of fun, easy, fast, portable, and inexpensive. My only snag was that I tried using the suggested hook, but it seemed way too big.  Instead, I found the smallest hook in my set and...

Baby Hoodie - Week 2

Week 2 brought the front panels.  The first (left) was easy, but the second (right) required a couple of redos in order to get them to match.  To get the right side to match, I didn't get...

Baby Hoodie - Week 3

And then there were sleeves! I started out with the 29-stitch wide as suggested in the pattern, but it looked way too wide for my skinny baby and my fat yarn.  I redid it at 27, but found that...

Crochet adventure - Baby hoodie progress - Week 1

Progress on this crochet-along.  This is the first time I've done a ___-along, let alone crocheting anything beyond a scarf or baby blanket.  Patterns tend to scare me, so I appreciate all...

Re: Project Runway Finale: Part 1

i agree that the first half was slow like an olympics background story, then the second half was so frenetic.

i'm most looking forward to see how carol hannah's purple tulle dress, irina's accordion-style black hooded jacket, and althea's fuschia pink dress look coming down the runway. i think i'll have to agree with nina that irina's all-black collection is asking for trouble, but what is she supposed to do now?

what terrible luck that carol hannah is sick at such an important moment in her life :( from the home visits, it seemed like she had it most together (a contrast to the show), so hopefully that will help. still love her personality and am cheering for her, but not sure she's got the versatility to win it.

and the irina - althea stuff is just annoying and unnecessary. irina is making too many awkward and nervous comments, probably because she's got a ton of work ahead of her (how lucky to get gordana as help...).

Re: Project Runway Week 12 Recap

i agree with the judge's choices...based on their comments (haha). their comments are so transparent. I agree with Angelinpdx that it seems like heidi has a hidden issue with gordana. in the same way, it seems like heidi really favors althea.

on a side note, i'm actually ok with irina, even her snarky interview comments, which at entertaining and are no more mean than nicholas' or althea's gossip chitchat (not her interview answers). i get the feeling project runway didn't have a lot of drama to work with and tried to typecast irina, especially when i see general footage of her hanging out with the rest or chatting with others. i think i'm also ok with irina b/c she's the only person who produces interesting and different things most weeks, plus she always seems focused and on task. as much as i love carol hannah's personality and her pretty dresses, she does seem to make the same thing over and over.

Re: Project Runway Episode 11 Recap

maybe the clothes look different in person than on tv? not understanding althea's win, but then again, i didn't understand her win earlier (or how she escaped all wrath for her film noir outfit). i get the distinct feeling that heidi likes her the best based on comments she makes.

i feel bad for logan. i liked his young hollywood outfit a lot from last week and didn't think it deserved all the "it's just clothes" comments. but he had a unique style, and one i don't think the PR judges are looking for. i feel like they reward the feminine, "luxe", and slightly edgy looks the most.

and i just have to say...i'm addicted to the show now after all these craftstylish updates on it. can't believe next week is the last one!

Re: How to Make a Two-Color A-Line Tee Skirt

i love all the t-shirt restyles!

i wonder if anyone has restyle ideas for men's shirts? i'd love to turn my husband's old shirts into wearable stuff for me :)

Re: Book Giveaway - Craft Challenge: Dozens of Ways to Repurpose a Pillowcase

i love these restyle and repurpose books :) except i just bought 3 of them and that in itself is probably not very good repurposing... my library needs to start carrying them!

i love these eco crafting book giveaways!

Re: Dare to Make It Knit-Along: An Easy Little Cardi, Part Two

Fun! I want to see people's pictures =) This will be fun to try out when I have more time. Thanks for all the detailed notes and pictures!

Re: Dare to Make It Knit-Along: An Easy Little Cardi

ooh, i like the color choices! i've got another project i'm working on right now and can't participate in this, but i'll bookmark it for a future date =)

Re: How to Make a Satin-Smooth Satin Stitch

thanks for the tutorial!

i have a newbie question -- how do you keep long/wide embroidery like this circle close to the main fabric? i don't know the term for it, but the last time i hand-embroidered a logo, the main fabric wasn't very stiff (it was a soft bag) and natural folds of the fabric caused the longer strands to sag. i tried to glue the string to the fabric, but that made it look crusty and dulled the embroidery thread's sheen.

Re: Sweet Baby Hoodie Crochet-Along: Week 5

i love the green color you chose =) very sweet!

Re: How to Restyle a T-Shirt into a Gathered-Yoke Top

fun tutorial! i just found myself with 30 minutes and an old t-shirt from my husband's goodwill bin and tried it out. it was definitely sloppy-guerilla style, though, because the shirt was an extra-large and needed some serious help after the yoke-gathering. fun, i'm going to post up some pictures now =)

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie, Part 3

the video is great! thanks for posting the link.

i restarted with my "real" yarn -- brown with light blue stripes =) -- and have caught up to week 3 off to week 4!

Re: How to Sew a Bias Tape Facing

wow, that's really helpful! great pictures. i had been wondering how to sew curved lines and was cutting weird notches into it (like on an inside of a bag) but not liking that because it didn't really seal off the seam from fraying.

Re: The Gift Guide for Guys

Cowboy cookies are my favorite! How fun to see them listed on here. My husband does enjoy them =)

Re: How to Make a Crocheted Ring Bracelet

Fun, I just finished this week =)

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie, Part 3

yay, almost done but it's time for bed. i didn't understand the reverse sc, so i ended up just flipping it to the wrong side, i guess?, and doing regular sc's from right to left. my yarn is really fuzzy, so the front and back look the same. i'm hoping it won't matter. maybe i'll try the reverse sc on my second sleeve when it's done.

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie, Part 2

just commenting to say i'm done with week 2 (after having to undo and redo the right front side 3 times to make it match the left *sigh*) and starting week 3 =) pictures will come later after the camera battery gets charged up.

in the future, how would i tell whether a side is "right" or "wrong"?

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie, Part 2

I just found a moment to start on week 2 =) Wow, I didn't realize there was a right/wrong side out? Both sides look pretty similar to me. And the shaping thing looks complicated. I think I'll just start and deal with it when I get there =)

Re: Can Friends Be Business Partners?

if there wasn't a Paper Source or Paper Place nearby, i think my paper-creativity would die just a little bit. i think it's lovely that you're bringing this to your community in omaha! i love walking through these stores and getting inspired.

good question about going into business with friends. maybe there are some business partners out there that could lend some sage advice? my optimism says there should be a way to come out with even stronger friendship as long as diagreements aren't allowed to brew long and fun non-business activities still nurture the friendships.

Re: How to Use Piping (Part 1)

thanks for the sewing tutorial! i was given my mom's sewing machine when i was in junior high and have just been sorta hacking it since then. it's great to learn how to use something out of that box of sewing machine doodads!

Re: CraftStylish Heads to Maker Faire, Austin This Weekend!

aw, I wish I could go! I've had it on the calendar in anticipation, but having a new baby means I couldn't be gone for longer than 4 hours. For the entry fee, I gotta be there all day to make it worth it!! Maybe next year =(

Re: pink princess wrap (prayer shawl)

that shawl is beautiful! i love the flower and button =)

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie

okay...i started! i think this is the first time i've crocheted since my son was born, and it'll be the first time i try something that's not a rectangle of some sort =)

once i figure out this gallery thing, i'll post up pictures of my progress.

Re: Crochet-Along: How to Crochet a Baby Hoodie

How exciting! I've always wanted to try and make something more than just baby blankets and scarves. This will be fun to try on my 7 month old son as the winter comes =)
