Re: Looking to make a "Teaching Kids to Sew Book"--Contributors Welcome!!

Dear Julie,
Good luck with your sewing class. I've taught sewing at a local school for the past 10 years. The girls in my classes are aged 10 and up. We made lots of small (some not so small) projects.

Some of the thngs we made:
-pinwheel pin (posted in craftstylish)
-doll sleeping bag
-simple hat, mittens, scarf (fleece)
-pillow case
-pin cushion
-locker organizer
-small zipper bag
-sweat shirt jacket
-small stuffed animals
-small tote bag

Re: Who first taught you to sew?

I first started with stamped cross stitch at the age of 5 (I still have the first one I made-so many years ago). My mom showed me how to make a stitch and I did the rest on my own.
As I got older (7 years old) I made Barbie doll clothes from rags that we had. At the age of 12 I took a Singer summer sewing class at the local mall. Over the years I taught myself how to do other things. I now teach after school sewing at my daughter's school (for the past 10 years)
