Re: How to Make Dorset Buttons
I have been making these for about a month now! I searched for hours to find a way to "make" buttons after I got tired of making Singleton buttons. Though time-consuming, they get easier and allow room for creativity. Thank you for posting!

If you are starting at the very beginning, my advice would be to practice on big scraps of cotton, just doing some straight lines....get used to adjusting the tension, using and changing out the right needle, pivoting, getting an accurate seam allowance. Just getting the basics down can bolster confidence. And when you are ready to sew with a pattern, start with a beginner pattern that doesn't take too much time; it will save getting discouraged with something too complicated and give you some quick bragging rights! Also, don't skip steps like pinning, pressing seams and stay-stitching. I know it takes a little extra time when you are excited to finish a project, but the results are so much nicer and may save a lot of extra seam-ripping!

Thank you for the tutorial! I just love reconstructing garments...it is so satisfying! Did have some trouble with this one, but I'm sure it was my error; the bustline included way too much of the sleeve! Very tight across the front with lots of fabric in the back! I will certainly try again, though.

I'm working my way into design, but haven't had the courage, patience or knowledge to begin. Would love this book!

I did it! Finished my first and only quilt from your tutorial! Quite frankly, quilting never ranked high on the appeal scale for me....until I saw your instructions and pattern. My husband also thanks you as his memories are preserved beautifully and functionally and aren't being used to clean the tub and sink! My neighbor just finished it with her long-arm machine; it was worth the little bit of a wait. Thanks so much!
