Re: Book Giveaway: Design-It-Yourself Clothes
Inspiration comes from many places - nature, the look and feel of a particular fabric, historical fashion, a costly outfit that was seen in a boutique, etc. My mother was married in 1939 when few families had funds available for a wedding. My mother and grandmother went to Fields in the Chicago loop where my grandfather worked as a tailor. There my mother fell in love with a dress much too expensive for the family's limited budget. That did not stop my determined grandmother. She studied the much loved gown, and then proceeded to make a copy. The result was spectacular!
posted: 4:02 pm on September 30thI have followed in my grandmother's footsteps. I see something that I like, draw a sketch, and then attempt to replicate it - but generally with a few added touches of my own. Do all of my attempts result in successes? Many do, but not all. I am always on the lookout of additional tips that will help me translate my ideas into eye-catching wearable art!I am sure that Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified would have some good ideas for all of us.
