I am a 50 something award winning apparel/costume/millinery designer, and teacher. My work has been recognised by the RI State Council on the Arts and Humanities (2002). I have been sewing professionally for over 35 years, and 20 of those years have been periodically spent in the theater. I have owned a womens clothing boutique, and have done my share of custom work and wedding gowns. I spent 5 years working with the elderly as an Activities Director, and am Alzhiemers and Dementia certified. This became a mission as a result of losing my dear Mother to eggregious neglect in a nrsing home, after a devasting stroke. I promise to write the book from behind the scenes!!
A trip to Scotland in 1995 to attend a watercolor workshop, inspired the name of my ETSY shop, Thistle Cottage Studio. I discovered my love of millinery in 1998, while designing and and patterning the costumes for 3 shows at the Shakespearean Theater of Maine at Monmouth, when I designed the costumes for the play, for The Heiress. While designing for the original opera, Michelangelo, by our local composer/genius, Enrico Garzilli, I also discovered my family connection to the Medici of Renaissance Italy!!

Re: What are your summer sewing plans?

As a professional designer/milliner/teacher, I will have the help of two of my very talented students. We will be stitching up handwoven wearable art jackets, period reproduction Jane Austen style jackets, blouses, dresses and coats, and maybe even some 1920's cloche hats. We will be immersed in preparation for the 43rd annual Scituate Art Festival, in Scituate, RI. Summer cocktail dresses are also waiting to be cut out now, to make their way to my online retail shop,
