Re: Make a Modern yet Rustic Fall Centerpiece

Texasphan- Normally I don't respond to comments such as yours but if you don't like it, leave it at that. Don't tell me I should be "ashamed of myself". And please don't post comments in all caps. I don't like to be yelled at and I don't like to be called a young lady by anyone other than my grandmother. I have a pretty prominent job in the design world and I have been doing it and doing it well for a decade. I just look young.
This project was featured on design*sponge as well so I guess somebody likes it...

Re: How to Make a Patchwork Laptop Case

hey cookies 13- it's not piping- just the color of the lining on the inside.
i like a bit of it to peak out so when i topstitch, it just flatten it out that way to sew.

Re: Zipper Tape Necklace

wow, what has happened to craft stylish? all that community stuff just went right out the window huh?
nikki, i think this is really cool. i work for a large retailer that sells some crazy awesome jewelry and we would totally buy this and sell it for 300 bucks.
just because you don't like it or wouldn't wear it doesn't make something ugly. it's just not your taste. this is probably a little more cutting edge than what a lot of people are used to- i can see it going over very well in brooklyn.
i like it and would totally wear it.

Re: How to Make a Patchwork Laptop Case

churunga- Sorry you feel that way. I like the colors, so to each her own i guess. You can really use any color story you would like and also make it more of a patchwork.
The fabric is not waterproof because I try not to use plastic in my sewing but it is washable. I have one of my own that I also made and have washed it before. Good as new right out of the wash.

Re: How to Crochet Bridal Jewelry

linda this i so pretty! i might do this the lazy way and use a doily but yours is gorgeous!!!

Re: How to Make a Something Old, Something New Ring Pillow

hi wannasew-
i don't think you need quilting experience for this just some quilting tools. if you want to make this super simple, you can just cut four equal 4" squares and sew them together.
the most important parts of this project are ironing (make sure to press the seams in the direction of the darker fabric) and cutting (the rotary cuter and quilting ruler make for very easy perfect squares).
i think that just jumping in to a small project like this is a good way to start learning patchwork. it really only takes an hour or two and if you screw it up, then you can easily try try again!

Re: How to Make an Artful Scarf from Scraps

Hey Jennie C- Yes, I used Solvy by Sulky. It's strange that they don't advertise the ironing as a feature on the website but they do have instructions for it in the package.
Good luck!!

Re: How to Make an Artful Scarf from Scraps

hey sunchile-
believe it or not, we have no crafty chain stores here in New York, so I'm not sure. The most popular brand name from water soluble stabilizer is Solvy by the company Sulky. I guess i would just say to call ahead and see. They should definitely have it at Joann.

hey cal-

jnjewel- i totally agree! i think it's much safer to make toys yourself. i made sure to use all natural materials (cotton and wool) making these because I don't want my pets eating anything weird and plastic!

Re: How to Make a Drawstring Dog Print Bag

hey smartstyle!
not too long, i did it in an afternoon (but i also had to design the pattern, so that's a big extra step!). but if you want to cut some steps you can either do the stencil on a pre-made bag or use printed material for the bag and skip the stencil part.
also, keep in mind that the freezer-paper stencils work on anything and it's a really easy way to print on clothing, home decor, accessories, etc, so you can take the stenciling technique and use it for something else!

Re: How to Make Felt Napkin Rings for Your Holiday Table

hey crafty gal-
here are a few places to get wool felt:
and http://www.magiccabin.com/magiccabin/product.do?section_id=0&bc=1004&pgc=185&cmvalue=MCD|0|Normal%20Search%20Result|P1

i think they both have great felt! you can use craft store felt too but it's not as durable.
another solution is to make your own felt by throwing wool sweaters in the wash on hot and then in the dryer.

hope that helps!
